GENERAL INFORMATION

Below you will find answers to many of the questions that you have. If your question isn't answered here then please call us at the studio on 02 4647 0255.

HOW DO I ENROL IN A CLASS?

To enrol in a class, simply come into the Academy or call us on 02 4647 0255 - we'll be happy to talk and advise what class/es are most suitable.  You can enrol at any time throughout the year (except in the immediate weeks leading up to the annual concerts). Please be aware that some classes do have waiting lists - if a place is able to be offered, students and/or parents are asked to fill in a simple enrolment form.

CAN I ATTEND ON A CASUAL BASIS?

Yes. We do suggest however that you call the office on 4647 0255 before attending to ensure that a casual place is available in that class. Please be aware that casual class rates do apply.

WHAT IS THE DURATION OF A CLASS?

Classes are normally structured as 45 minute or 1 hour lessons, however we have a number of classes that run for 2+ hours. Please call for confirmation or see the timetable.

WHAT PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES
ARE OFFERED?

The Academy provides a number of performance opportunities:

  • ANNUAL CONCERTS
One of the most enjoyable experiences on offer at the Academy is our series of annual concerts where all students are invited to take part.

Drama, singing and musical theatre have an annual recital mid-year whilst dance classes perform in a series of concerts towards the end of the year. Each class learns and rehearses a special item during their class time, and then performs as part of a professional stage show in front of a large and appreciative audience.

Although participation in the Annual Concerts is not compulsory, we have always found that taking part is a wonderful experience for all students. It is through the annual performances that students can gain a great sense of achievement & confidence performing in front of a live audience and have a lot of fun whilst doing so.

The Senior School holds a separate gala concert - usually held at the Illawarra Performing Arts Centre. It showcases the senior students and is always a very entertaining evening.

  • Show Groups & Companies
The Academy has a number of Show Groups and Companies  that perform throughout the year at various community events, corporate functions and selected competitions. Participation in our Show Groups/Companies is not necessarily restricted to the most talented - all the teachers are constantly on the lookout for students who show great passion, dedication, teamwork and a willingness to improve.

In competitions, we firmly believe that success doesn't necessarily mean winning a trophy. Rather, we believe in a positive approach towards competing & encourage all students to recognise and learn the benefits of working as a group towards a common goal. Or if competing in solo competitions, we encourage all students to first and foremost enjoy themselves on stage.

If you are keen to be in Showgroup/Company, please approach Miss Danielle who can give you a rundown on requirements.

  • Professional Opportunities
The Academy is always receiving information about professional opportunities in the performing arts industry. Audition notices are often placed on the noticeboard, however if you are keen to pursue a career in the performing arts, we would encourage you to seek the advice of The Academy Director or Manager who are always happy to sit down with you (and parents if required) to guide you in the right direction.

CAN I WATCH MY CHILD'S CLASSES?

Open days/demonstration of class work is provided when students undertake exams or assessments to keep parents updated on their child's progress. There are also various other opportunities and open days where parents are invited into the studios to view class work - usually held on the last day of term.

TEACHER AWARDS - JUNIOR SCHOOL

The Academy has a merit system for our junior students much the same as a lot of primary schools. We feel that these offer students recognition for hard work & for milestones they have achieved within their class. Five class teacher awards are to be collected and then handed in at the front desk for a gold merit award.

ARE EXAMS COMPULSORY
AT THE ACADEMY?

No... nothing at the Academy is compulsory! We do however encourage students to undertake exams when teachers consider they are ready. Students/parents will be notified of upcoming exams. All exams are conducted by internationally & nationally recognised organizations:

  • Ballet - Royal Academy of Dance (RAD)

  • Tap - Pullar Syllabus

FEES

The Academy caters for all types of students... from those who learn just for fun or as a hobby, right through to those who want to embark on a professional career. Consequently, we offer top-quality teaching and facilities at affordable rates.

For students that love the performing arts, we offer multi-class discounts, plus our special UNLIMITED pass that allows students to do an UNLIMITED number of classes if they enrol during the term for just 7 classes or more per week - this is fantastic for the student that loves performing, or is perhaps training towards a career in the performing arts.

Fees are payable in advance by the term. We follow the public school terms so generally each term is 10 weeks in duration. For accounting purposes, we kindly ask for fees to be paid in advance before or during the first class of term.

Fees can be paid via CASH, CREDIT, CHEQUE or EFTPOS, and can be paid in person at the front desk (during office hours) or via POST, FAX or TELEPHONE.

Call the studio to discuss the most appropriate classes and fee structure for you or your child/ren.
