CLASSICAL BALLET (R.A.D)
Jazz

Tap
Wigglebugs (pre-schoolers)
Modern / Lyrical

Boys-Only Classes

CLASSICAL BALLET

Ballet is the foundation style of dance - encouraging strength, flexibility, endurance and artistry. Ballet is also lots of FUN!

At the Academy, students are taught the Royal Academy of Dancing syllabus (RAD) in classical ballet, supplemented by open classes. The RAD is the largest classical ballet teaching organisation in the world, with it's graduates being renowned for their solid foundation in ballet technique and artistry.

BALLET FOR JUNIORS
Junior ballet classes at the Academy are a great way for children to express themselves and to explore and develop their imagination. The classes are structured specifically to develop motor skills, co-ordination, rhythm, musicality and imagination all within the framework of a fun dance class.

Most of all - for youngsters especially - ballet is just plain fun with lots of activities that children just love from imaginary adventures, to beating a drum and skipping with a rope.

BALLET FOR SENIOR STUDENTS

Senior students at the Academy are offered the opportunity for further progress and professional development by choosing to undertake the RAD vocational exams, supplemented by open classes to further strengthen their technique and artistry.  Despite the challenging nature of studying classical ballet at such a level, teachers at the Academy always employ the philosophy that students will always learn best when they enjoy what they do.

Students at the Academy have been offered positions with the Australian Ballet School, the Australian Ballet School Junior Interstate Program, the Boston Ballet School, Western Australia Academy of Performing Arts, Victorian College of the Arts, plus numerous professional contracts both in Australia and overseas.

JAZZ

Jazz classes are great for fitness, flexibility, posture and muscular development. Students dance to the latest pop tunes and learn all the technical skills to be able to turn, leap and put complex movements together as a dance.

These classes incorporate many popular jazz styles from latino, disco and funk, right through to hip-hop and video-clip styles. The classes are structured so that students can work on the steps they have learnt each week to improve and gain confidence in their performing.

At the Academy, jazz classes are graded in levels of ability and whilst exams are offered they are by no means compulsory.

HIP-HOP

The popularity of movies such as 'You Got Served' and 'Honey' has seen hip-hop become the most talked about dance style of recent times.

The framework of the Academy's hip-hop programme allows students with little or no dance experience through to the most advanced dancers to participate actively in every class.

Class begins with a hip-hop warm-up where students follow the teachers movement, moving on to gentle stretches and dance combinations which are great for fitness.

In the last part of the class students will learn a hip-hop dance. Hip-hop classes are a great way to get together with friends and learn new skills - and because hip-hop is arguably as much about 'attitude' as it is about technique, students of all abilities are sure to have a great time.

TAP

Tap is one of the most entertaining and challenging forms of dance.

Anybody who's seen Tap Dogs will know how fantastic tap can be. The thing is that all of those guys had completed many years of training to get to that level.

At the Academy, tap students aged from 4 years learn tap in our beginners tap/jazz class which combines the basic elements of both styles of dance, whilst advanced classes offer the older student the opportunity to excel.

The Academy teaches a special syllabus (Pullars) blending the traditional with the latest styles - developing strong tap technique with expression and challenging rhythms and sounds. Tap at the Academy is a great way to stay fit, develop musicality, and learn the cool 'Tap Dogs' style.

MODERN / LYRICAL

Modern is best described as an expressive blend of ballet and jazz although it has a technique and style all of it's own.

Modern/ contemporary is currently one of the most popular styles of dance throughout the world with many dance and ballet companies using modern/ contemporary works as a large part of their repetoire.

Modern is also the core dance style used in the NSW school system from primary through to the HSC.

Like all classes at the Academy, our modern/ contempoarary classes focus on enjoyment being the basis of every student's learning. We generally suggest that students can begin to be introduced to our modern/ contemporary classes at age 7 years or over.

ACRO

Acrobatics at the Academy is excellent for fitness, flexibitlity, balance and teamwork.

In these classes, students will learn basic tumbling skills and balancing skills needed to progress on to advanced acrobatics.

The class begins with a warm-up and series of stretches to get the body ready to twist and turn into all the shapes used in the class. Then it moves on to floorwork combinations, group formations and balances.

When all the foundation movements have been learnt, students will be able to put their new found skills to use in both a solo acrodance and group item.

BOYS-ONLY CLASSES

LOTS OF NOISE - LOTS OF FUN!

The Academy offers BOYS ONLY stomp classes for boys from six years and up. The class blends traditional tap with the new sounds and rhythms of the street, creating a new sound and great movement.

Fast-paced and fun, the class is designed to get the brain and the body moving.
