Stretching and strengthening are very important components of dance. But it is so very important to do so properly. These days there are many videos on the internet with people doing incredible things. It is very tempting to try and force your body into the weird and wonderful shapes, but this very easily leads to injuries.

The most important thing to remember is to warm up first. Warm muscles allow for easy lengthening where as cold muscles are stiff and more prone to injury. Once you have ensured that you are engaged in safe stretching, it is then important to remember that stretching should be accompanied by strengthening exercises. This not only, again, helps to prevent injuries, it also gives you the ability to maintain beautiful devlopes and use your flexibility to its full potential.

At the Academy we offer two strength and flexibility classes; 7-12 year olds on Wednesdays at 5:45pm, and 13+ years on Fridays at 5:00pm.
